Meet Head Coach DON BIGGS

Don is currently in his second season (2009-2010) as the Head Coach/GM for the QC Steam, after having served as their GM and Assistant Coach for the several years prior to the 2008-2009 season.

Don Biggs joined the OHL's Oshawa Generals at the age of 17 in 1982-83 and had a big impact in his rookie season scoring 75 points in 70 games. Biggs may have been small in physical stature, but that did not prevent him from playing a robust style. He also was not interested in the usual rookie treatment, standing up to the veterans of the league, as evidenced by his 145 minutes in penalties. The Generals advanced to the Memorial Cup in Portland where they lost to the host Winter Hawks 8-3 in the final. It was thanks to that strong rookie season that saw Biggs selected in the eighth round, 156th overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota North Stars. Biggs continued to improve offensively over the next two years in junior, which culminated with a 48-goal, 117-point season in 1984-85. He played one game with the North Stars that year and also six games with the Springfield Indians of the AHL.

In December, 1985 Biggs was traded to the Edmonton Oilers and was immediately dispatched to their AHL club in Nova Scotia. Unfortunately the high-flying Oilers were in full swing offensively at the time and could not find a roster spot in Edmonton.

In the summer of 1987 Biggs signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and played two seasons with the Hershey Bears. He finally got the opportunity to suit up with the Flyers, playing eleven games with them in 1989-90 where he scored twice.

Biggs played two years with Binghamton of the AHL and in 1992-93 led the league in scoring with 54 goals and 138 points. He then had six strong seasons with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL and finished off his playing career in 1998-99 with the Utah Grizzlies.

In 2001-02 he came out of retirement at the age of 37 and rejoined the Cyclones as they battled for a playoff spot. With his number 22 sweater already hanging from the rafters he wore number 16 and 17.
